How SolarRank Works
Bigger systems make more power, so ranking by kWh isn't fair. SolarRank ranks by solar yield: the energy produced for each kilowatt of panels you own.
Check your app
At the end of the day, note the total kWh your system produced. Enphase, SolarEdge, Tesla, Fronius and Home Assistant all show it.

Enter it above, or connect your system once and it uploads itself every evening after sunset.

Yield = kWh ÷ kW. A 6 kW system making 36 kWh scores 6.0, the same as a 12 kW system making 72 kWh.
How Much Solar Does Nova Scotia Get Each Month?
The average daily yield by month, from 1,923 real reports by Nova Scotia systems since April 2023. Multiply by your system size to see a typical day. For example, a 10 kW system in November averages about 17 kWh/day.
Yield in kWh per kW of panels per day. Community data from self-reported systems; individual results vary with shading, orientation and local weather.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is solar yield?
Solar yield (also called specific yield) is the energy your panels produce in a day, in kWh, divided by the size of your system in kW. A 10 kW system that makes 50 kWh has a yield of 5.0. Because it cancels out system size, it is the fairest way to compare a small rooftop array with a large one.
What is a good daily solar yield in Nova Scotia?
It depends heavily on the season. Across 1,923 daily reports from Nova Scotia systems since 2023, the average yield is about 4.6 in June and July and 0.9 in December and January. On a clear summer day, well-sited systems regularly reach 7 to 8 or more, and the community record is 8.57.
Why is my yield lower than other systems?
The most common reasons are shading from trees or buildings, panels facing east, west or north instead of south, a low or steep roof pitch, snow or dirt on the panels, and an inverter that is smaller than the panel array (clipping). Local weather also varies a lot across the province, so a cloudy day in Yarmouth can be sunny in Sydney.
How are the savings calculated?
Savings are your daily kWh multiplied by the approximate NS Power residential energy rate for that year (about 18.19¢ per kWh in 2026). It is an estimate of the electricity you did not have to buy. It does not include fixed customer charges or the details of your net-metering agreement.
Where do I find my system size and daily kWh?
Your system size (DC, in kW) is on your installer's quote or contract, or in your monitoring app. It is the total wattage of all panels, for example 24 panels × 400 W = 9.6 kW. Daily production (kWh) is shown in your inverter or monitoring app, such as Enphase Enlighten, SolarEdge, Tesla, Fronius or Home Assistant.
Can I submit my numbers automatically?
Yes. Request a free API key, then connect Home Assistant, an Enphase gateway, a Python script or a simple cURL command so your production is uploaded every evening after sunset.
I made a mistake. Can I fix my entry?
Yes. Submit again with exactly the same system name and date, and your new numbers will replace the old ones.
Is my information public?
The system name, size, orientation and production you submit are shown publicly on the leaderboard. There are no accounts and no email is collected, so we recommend using a nickname or your community name rather than your full name or address.
